Project Overview
Lowder Steel, Inc. completed the structural steel scope for the Mebane Oaks development, a complex project consisting of two buildings and incorporating 243 tons of structural steel. The project required advanced detailing and fabrication to accommodate extensive structural connections and architectural design requirements.
This development included over 90 web penetrations and more than 100 moment connections, allowing the structure to support large storefront openings while also carrying multiple levels of wood framing above the steel structure.

Lowder Steel provided full-service steel support for the Mebane Oaks project, including:
Structural steel fabrication
Advanced steel detailing and coordination
Fabrication for complex connection requirements
Accommodation of web penetrations for building systems integration
On-site steel erection and installation
The project required careful coordination with structural engineers and other trades to ensure the steel structure properly supported both architectural storefront openings and upper-level wood framing systems.
The Mebane Oaks project required significant attention to detailing and fabrication accuracy due to the large number of moment connections and web penetrations. Lowder Steel’s experienced team successfully delivered a structural system that allowed for open commercial storefront spaces while maintaining the strength necessary to support multiple floors above.
This project highlights Lowder Steel’s ability to manage complex structural steel designs, advanced connection requirements, and mixed structural systems.
